What are the updated requirements to install CiviCRM?
January 09, 2009, 02:49:13 pm
Hello All!

I use to install CiviCRM to check it out a few years back.  At that time, the Apache install needed to be a PHP-Apache configuration and not in CGI mode.

I could not determine from looking at the CiviCRM web site including the Admin information, if this holds true now.

I saw upon searching that Donald Lobo responded to a question about Requirements in year 2007 but, it was not clear about how Apache should be set up in relationship to PHP.

Response:  Donald Lobo / Administrator
Post: Basic requirements of a Hosting plan
Date & Time: July 29, 2007, 06:32:43 pm
Location: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,769.msg3138.html#msg3138

QUESTION:
How should Apache be configured to allow CiviCRM to be installed?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

those requirements still hold.

I think CiviCRM will run in either mode (mod_php or as a CGI). You will need to control and tweak the max execution and memory limits in either mode

Thanks for your response Lobo!

I forgot to add these questions to the previous post:

QUESTIONS:
  • What is the specialized hosting ithat is needed for CiviMail that was indicated in your 2007 post on requirements? also,
  • What is the status of CiviMail presently?  After reading the forum post on the UAS project, it was unclear if the code was open source or if one had to pay UAS to utilize CiviMail software.  Also, it appeared that "in office" email could not be used on the UAS Project.

1. check: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviMail+Configuration. You basically need root access if you want to go the amavis route

2. however u can use imap2soap or http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviMail+Processor and get around the having root requirements

3. I dont know if the UAS code is open source. You'll have to check with the UAS folks. If you use their service, you will need to pay for it. The fees are very reasonable (IMO).
