Translation files not working
January 13, 2009, 04:57:54 am
Hi,

I've been working on translations and after several hours translating to pt_PT at Pootle, I've downloaded the files, uploaded them to the server l10n/pt_PT/LC_MESSAGES, checked back at the civiCRM Admin configurations, selected the Portuguese (pt_PT) default, configured all items, logged out Joomla Admin and logged back in and the civiCRM translations I've made aren't active.  :S  I currently get the old uncomplete translation without the changes I've made.
Checked back the .po file in the folder and all translated items are there but not displaying.

Another issue is that in the front-end, for instance when the user submits his profile update (using civiCRM form) the message comes in English, despite the user preferences being in other language like Portuguese.
I've been fishing around to see where these messages are located and can't find them. Any help here would be also appreciated.

Thanks!

Mario,

In order to have your translated strings display, you need to compile .po file to .mo format. Please check other threads on this forum, it was discussed a couple of times, for example here:
http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,5792.0.html

If it comes to profile information, please check if the text is translated in PO, if it's a system message, or is it translated in the database, if it's a part of profile configuration (civicrm/admin/uf/group).

Thx,
m

Michal,

Thanks for your reply. It seems that my search in the forum weren't so effective and didn't notice the need to compile the .mo in .po :(
I'll try to figure out how to do it and probably all of my problems are in those .po files :S

I'll chek back as soon as I get to the final solution...

Thanks again

Yikes! It's working now. I had to get the Poedit for mac and start translating and uploading to the LC_MESSAGES folder. Now the issues with the front end messages have gone also and all, related to this is working fine.

Probably off topic but I had to get back to the previous version of civiCRM (before this latest update) because I noticed a bug (I think) as I lost the Joomla menu options to enter the profile ID in the civiCRM connection to the profile edit form.

Thanks again!
Cheers

Which versions of CiviCRM are you talking about?

I first installed the civiCRM 2.1.4 but when I upgarded to the 2.2 I lost the Joomla (1.5.8) menu options to enter de civiCRM parameters.
I rolled back to civiCRM 2.1.4 and all is working now even on Joomla 1.5.9.
Thanks.

Ok - you might want to describe your problem with 2.2 on 2.2 Release Testing board.

Thx,
