Is Civicrm fully compatible with mysqli?

It seems to work fine for most things I do. But then, I get a weird error at times which results in: "Call to undefined function mysql_error() in D:\Apache2\htdocs\drupal_website\modules\civicrm\CRM\Core\Error.php on line 160"

If I'm using mysqli, I believe that all mysql related function calls that use to begin with "mysql" now begin with "mysqli."

However, in Error.php, it tries to make a call to "mysql" functions instead of mysqli functions. So, is this an error, or should I only use mysql drivers instead of mysqli?
