Error: timeout exceeded

I have been having problems with the contact import in CiviCRM 2.1.2:
"We encountered an unknown error in setError: Error: timeout exceeded"

It's not clear yet if this error just affects the progress bar UI, or if the contact import was also interrupted.

It occurs relatively randomly, and the size of the CSV file isn't necessarily the problem (I am importing 86,000 contacts, and have broken down the 17MB CSV file into 6MB, then 3MB, now 2MB chunks. The first five 2MB files imported fine.)

most likely this was the import timing out. The long term solution is for the system to automatically split an import into multiple smaller chunks (or have an offline import)

In the short term, i suspect reducing the size of the files to 1Mb or so and upping the timeout to a large number might help. Would be cool if someone would script the whole thing (i.e. split file into smaller chunks, call import for each chunk and record results), since this comes up quite often). If interested, ping us on IRC and we can chat on various ways
