Unsubscribing from a forwarded email
January 17, 2009, 11:37:59 am
We had a user complain that he forwarded an email received through CiviMail and the new recipient clicked on the unsubscribe link thinking he was unsubscribing himself. Of course, he unsubscribed the original recipient. Is there any way a warning or confirmation could be issued before the deed is done? We are on 1.9. Maybe it's been fixed so let me know.

Thanks

A confirm feature would work if the process is to send an email to the member being unsubscribed.  The email would explain that to unsubscribe, they must click on a link in the email or hit Reply leaving the subject unchanged.

Is this how it works?

One bulletproof solution would be to accept unsubscribe requests that come from the email address being unsubscribed only, and disregard requests that come from any other email address.

We are using the {action.UnsubscribeURL} token in the footer. Not the {action.unsubscribe} token. The latter has its own problems because a user's mail client might not have MAPI support or the user is using webmail, in which case no email would be composed.
