Importing: won't Update null fields
January 19, 2009, 03:49:59 pm
I'm experiencing a problem (running CiviCRM 2.0.2 on Drupal 5) where I cannot do an Import -> Update of certain records. I was puzzled at first, but managed to narrow it down to this problem: if a field such as Street Address or Postal Code is blank/null in the database, it will not import an updated value from the CSV, even though the contact has been matched positively.

However, if I go to the record and fill the null field with dummy info, the Import -> Update will work just fine the next time around, correctly overwriting the dummy value with the CSV's info.

Has anyone encountered this problem, and is there a solution? I thought of filling the Null address fields with a space character, but that seems like a clumsy workaround.

Thanks in advance --

Nathan

Interesting, Ive been having a similar issue I think, where Im attempting to update existing contact records with an external identifier value, and at import receive no errors or problems, but data remains blank in records that exist.

Further, records that dont exist dont get created either???

Ill place some examples in the sandbox after I find a work around.... in the meantime pressure from client to get it done :P
