We could not find a user id.
January 20, 2009, 07:45:38 pm
I have installed the civiCRM on Drupal 6.x

When I click on my membership link, I get the following error message:

Quote

status
We could not find a user id. You must be logged in to access the CiviCRM Home Page and menus.

If I log in as the admin and go to the link, there is no problem.  If I log off and go to the membership link, I get this error.
What am I doing wrong?

thanks!

hi

It seems like user permissions issue.
I guess your are anonymously trying to access civicrm home page.  Though "access CiviCRM" permission given to anonymous user is not enough to access civicrm home page.
You has to have user log in to access civicrm home page.

It would be good if you provide membership link that you are talking.

thanks

I am new to civiCRM and Drupal so it is a bit of a challenge to understand everything.

I do know that if I have clicked for anonymous access, I am expecting people to see the pages without logging in.
If I can't figure out how to operate this, I may have to pay someone to help me...

This can be handle by drupal user Permissions. You need to have only "make online contributions" permission to anonymous user.
log in as drupal admin go to  Administer -> User management -> Permission -> give "make online contributions" permission to anonymous user.

it is selected.

i think i bit off more than i can chew...  :'(

i would like to add that I am a bit overwhelmed with civiCRM now that it is installed.
i am really struggling with how to make it so the only allowed registration is through civiMember and not allow to register using drupal.  Where do I start???

You might be able to install / use the Drupal module - Login Toboggan - to redirect anonymous visitors who click on "Create Account" to you CiviCRM membership signup page instead:

http://drupal.org/project/logintoboggan

If you want to FORCE all new members to create a Drupal account while they're signing up for their Civimember membership - you'll have to wait for 2.2 to be stable (since it allows you to configure a Profile to REQUIRE user account creation if the visitor is not already logged in / doesn't have a Drupal user acount).

I think I am going to upgrade to the 2.2 version.
our site is a bicycle club and the only way I want people logging in is if they are registered member, which requires paying dues.  That being the case, we want them to register through civiCRM only.  There should not be 2 different signup options...just one.
Are you saying with 2.2, when the user registers, it will handle the account for civiCRM and drupal (as a single account entity?)

thanks!!!

I think we have resolved some of the problems off line - key issues were
- setting up Profile for the Contribution page and requiring Drupal account creation
