Joomla ACL in 1.6

In case our dev team didn't see this:

Taken from:Happy New Year: 2009 is going to be a big one (point six)

Notwithstanding that there is some other really cool work going on, 1.6 is about two main new features.  The first is a that we've completely rebuilt the way extensions are stored in the database and this will ultimately make it easier for developers to make multi-installable packages.  I'll let Sam blog about this more at another time.
The other feature is giving Joomla a fully feldged Access Control System.

ACL is now live in the 1.6 svn repository. Here are some screen shots and discussion:

ACL's are quite exciting and good to see that in joomla. not sure if/when we'll integrate with it since with standalone we now have a complete ACL solution within CiivCRM. Equally exciting is the member profile integration with extensible member integration, so the CiviCRM component can inject profiles into user registration

as always if you are keen to see this happen in the code sooner rather than later, please consider either contributing or sponsoring the work for integration

Hello FatherShawn,
I am inferring from your statements below that you have worked some with Joomla 1.6 and CiviCRM?

If yes, can you provide a little intel on your experience?

I am especially interested in the possibility of integrating the data in Civi's user profiles and Joomlas and then using some of the custom fields to drive functionality on the site.  But, really, I would appreciate any kind of feedback on what level of success / lack of success you have encountered.

Many thanks in advance,
Mike

I haven't done anything with J1.6 I'm afraid.  I'm aware of the ACL disparity currently between the Drupal and Joomla versions of Civi and the discussion about bringing ACL inside Civi rather than CMS dependent, so was highlighting the feature for our developers.
