Import Problems for Indiv: no error but contact not found???
January 21, 2009, 08:44:12 pm
I have been uploading over 20 disparate lists of contacts, most maintained in excel by separate parties, into the crm. All was well until I tried to import offline contributions for this data and found a handfull of the records don't exist OR exist but no external identifier (which was in the upload data) exists.

I suspected there me dupe issues from the lists, but only a sparse number of the problem files showed duplication.

It seems to me there is a bug in the upload wizard? Example I upload the missing 39 records (missing external identifier in contributions upload, search on the contact and they are not found) and receive notice 39 records uploaded, 39 records successfully imported.... and then search on the contact and they STILL are not found?

Another note, I created new group for the upload to track the upload, but no new group shows in the groups????

Seems simple, but I cant understand the problem. Help?

1. u will need to reproduce this error on http://sandbox.civicrm.org/ for us to help you out

2. figuring out your civicrm version is quite important. If you are using an old version, those are not supported and hence we can only offer limited help

Im wondering if there is a table size limit?

Same thing today, small list, says its imports no errors no dupes. Records no where to be found, and group wasnt created. Tried different browser, and different IP.

Thanks Lobo, Ill find out the version, it has to be new, we just installed. As for reproducing in the sandbox i cant share this data, it has personal financial info etc.

I eventually got the upload to work by reducing the number of fields/columns in the import file and uploading in smaller batches. Trying to figure this out, it seems there was too much data in the upload file.

It is a bug that it reports all files uploaded and no errors etc. I would never have known they didnt upload if I didnt have corresponding (external ID) donation files that wouldnt upload due to external identifier not found...

Any ideas? As now Im on to my second instance, I have one for almost every state. This time I was very careful and judicious in creating custom field groupings in order to limit the load on the server with the extra joins etc... SAME PROBLEM ???

I have reduced the batches to 100 rows, and cut out all the fields/columns i can, still no luck.

Solution:

Yes/No field types cannot contain null values.

Nothing to do with record count or column count, if yes/no contains nulls, CIVI reports all records updated successfully, no errors. (Civi version 2.0.2)

I'm facing the same problem. I'm using CiviCRM 2.1.4 running on Drupal 6.9. Even though I'm only trying to import 11 records at one time. Interestingly, some of them get uploaded but some of them don't. Oh yes, it's a Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6. I'll try importing it in sandbox and revert.

We did some tests with 2.2 to see if we could find a bug in this area. We created a Yes / No custom field, then imported several records - including some where the import row value for the Yes/No field was empty (null). All rows imported properly. The row with the empty value for the Yes/No field was imported (not skipped), as were subsequent records.

If either of you are getting different behavior - please recreate on the 2.2 sandbox with a small set of sanitized data and post an issue with specific steps to recreate (and sample import file plus screenshot of import mappings attached).

Note: For import UPDATES to existing records we currently ignore empty FIELDS in a row (we do not CLEAR an existing value for that field in the DB). I believe that a fix for this is scheduled for 2.3.
