What more precisely does opt-out mean, in terms of membership?
January 22, 2009, 01:48:47 pm
Hi!

I am new to civiCRM and thus to Civimail, but it seems I have gotten the alternative return path setup to work. However, before using this in the real situation, I would need to understand more clearly what the opt-out means.

The persons on the lists are all CiviCRM members, and are included in a list. Does opt out mean that the will no longer recieve mails, OR are they also deleted from the membership list? If not deleted from membership list, is there a way for me to see who gets mail and who does not?

I have done some extensive reading but have not been able to sort this out - sorry if I missed something quite obvious.

1. opt out means that those members will have a flag set in their contact record that states that they have 'opted out' of all mailings from your org. They will still be part of all lists, but will not get any mail sent to them via a list

2. After a mailing is sent, you can get a listing in the reports which lists all the folks who were sent the mailing. We give a recipient count before we send the mailing, but not the actual recipients
