what is the "Home Page" for CiviCRM relative to the domain?

I have somehow misplaced the menu for the home page.  I can only get to the CiviCRM Administer page.  I need to administer groups and I think I can only do it from that page.

thanks.  That sends me to:
civicrm/admin/setting?reset=1
with the error = "We could not find a contact id"

Does that mean I am a drupal user not yet assigned a civi user or something else?
