Add Additional Location Field CiviCRM 2.2 beta
February 05, 2009, 03:24:42 pm
Hi,

I'm on Drupal 6.9, and CiviCRM 2.2 beta. Looking excellent so far.
I am wondering:
How do I add an additional location fieldset in addition to the primary location.
Let's say I want there to be a 'secondary' location.
So, when I open a contact I want there to be a primary location-set to 'main'.
And, a secondary location set to 'other'. (Obviously they could be set to whatever...)
Currently, I can add a new address type to be set as the primary address, but not a second address fieldset.
Interestingly, when I import contacts, I can assign some address information as 'Main', and other address information as 'Other', and this will establish a second fieldset (called "Additional Location") in the manner I'd like. However, I can't get this at other contacts that were added not by import.
Can this functionality be added in the contact/edit page, or maybe at the configure address types page?
Am I missing something?
Thanks!

It seems like they should be able to have exactly the number of defined Location Types (at civicrm/admin/locationType?reset=1).
Does that make sense?

Right now there is kind of a bug, because you can 'get' extra field sets during import, but you can not get them when adding a single contact. So, my clients see multiple fields sets from the data i imported, but, when the add a new contact they are confused why there is only the primary address fieldset.

I would say: The order of the Location Types (at civicrm/admin/locationType?reset=1), should be the order of the field sets at contact/edit. Then, the drop down w/in the fieldsets would allow you to set 'primary', and 'secondary'. As opposed 1 primary address fieldset where you choose between location types...

As PeterD noted, you can configure the Address Settings to provide your users with 2, 3 etc. location types in the New Contact form.

We are going to be doing a UI review and major overhaul on the contact edit form for 2.3. There's some discussion / ideas here:

... and we will be posting specs and probably prototypes in the coming weeks, and asking for feedback.
