Book recommendations for budding CiviCRM developers
February 06, 2009, 07:41:24 am
Hi,

I increasingly find myself looking through Civi code and would like to be in a position to contribute to development in some small way. I have fairly good PHP knowledge but often find the Civi code a little gnomic. It looks well-written and structured but working out which bit of code achieves a particular purpose is sometimes a bit of a mission. This, I believe, is because I'm not well enough versed in Civi's development methodology. (MVC?)

Any recommendations for a book or other resources to increase my understanding? It's unlikely that I'd find time to buy & read more than one any time soon, so top recommendations would be great! Also are there Civi coding guidelines / standards?

Thanks,

Dave J

There's not really a good book / document to help the learning curve as of yet. Best bet is to tackle something small at first and ask any / all questions on IRC. Of course, if you can make it to the upcoming Developer Camp - April 29-30 in San Francisco - you'll get a major head start there. :-)
