Some emails send, some don't
February 09, 2009, 05:32:07 pm
Using the default SMTP settings, I'm able to send a message to a contact.  When I test drive an event's online registration, I get errors suggesting that the SMTP settings are incorrect.  When using Civimail, nothing goes out though no errors appear.

I've requested SMTP information from the client, but is there anything else I should be looking at?  Thanks!

Would be helpful to see the exact error message(s) you're getting.

Also, compare the FROM email addresses used in the various cases - as the hosting provider may not allow sender(s) who don't have a valid mail account.

I just changed the default SMTP setting to the one for my domain.  The test email from the SMTP settings page went out fine, so I tried to do a test mailing with Civimail.  I received no errors and it seemed like the mailing was sent out, but I have not received it yet (not in Spam either).

Now when I go to my contact page, I see that my email is 'On Hold' when I was able to send myself a message with the default settings yesterday.  (and of course, can't send myself an email)

Figures that everything worked on the development server but on the production server these issues appear (which is why I changed the SMTP settings to match the server).

btw - the site on the production server is not a copy of the one that was developed.  I had some issues with moving the installation and because there was no actual content in Civi, I just installed & configured it.

I'd recommend starting a new post on the CiviMail forum board with LOTS of details about how things are configured, what's happening specifically, any error messages on screen, in your mailserver log etc.
