Error message when creating custom fields

I'm getting an error message when I go to create custom fields after already creating a few.  The message is as follows:

* warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in /var/local/coral/dist2/sites/default/modules/civicrm/CRM/Event/BAO/Participant.php on line 501.
* warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in /var/local/coral/dist2/sites/default/modules/civicrm/CRM/Event/BAO/Participant.php on line 501.
* warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in /var/local/coral/dist2/sites/default/modules/civicrm/CRM/Event/BAO/Participant.php on line 501.

Excuse the repetition, but I got it three times at once like that for some reason, so I thought it might be significant.

can you reproduce this on the sandbox server: http://sandbox.civicrm.org/

if so, please file an issue

what version of PHP are you using and what version of CiviCRM.
Chances are it will not happen in the sandbox ( -:
If it does not then maybe it is your version of PHP ie not a new enough version.
I have seen version 5.1 give me errors with arrays

Thanks, I'll figure out my PHP version, and see if that's it.  If not, I'll try the sandbox.

So, it's version 5.1.6.  Is that a bad thing?  ???
