Can memberships be inherited through relationships?
February 13, 2009, 10:32:04 am
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Membership+Types
This explains (I think) that Memberships can be inherited through relationships (if properly set at the Membership Type page).
I expect this to mean that if my Organization becomes a member, all of the contacts with 'employees of' relationship to the organization will also become members.
In practice, I can't get this functionality. When an Org becomes a member, its employees are not assigned memberships.
Am I missing something?

Thank you.
Kyle

Make sure to run the membership update script (see the green box at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Membership+Types). This should update memberships based on any established relationships. If it doesn't work, check to make sure that the current employer field is filled and run the script again.

Thanks Joe Maine,

(I grew up in Bridgton, ME). ;D
I was also choosing the incorrect reationship type.
I wanted to propagate memberhships from Orgs to Inds who have 'employee of' relationship to their Org.
This meant i need to choose the 'Employer Of' relationship type, not 'employee of'.
I should have played around more before posting. But i wasn't sure if i was misunderstanding the intend of the functionality.

Thanks.
k
