Trouble getting profile pictures into CiviCRM profiles

I am using the instructions found here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Adding+pictures+in+civicrm+profile+page

But when I attempt to run the php file (part three of the instructions) I have named blank.php in the root of my drupal folder I get a 500 server error.

What am I doing wrong. Does the file not need to be navigated to? How do I run it?

Sorry - that "recipe" is obsolete. I've removed it from the wiki.

I think you can use this simple approach instead:
