Is the "Unsubscribe" link still required in 2.x?

We are still on 1.9. Our bulk emails require the unsubscribe link however we "may" want to only allow opt-out as unsubscribe is not exactly the behaviour we want. I recall a discussion during the Melbourne training that Lobo/Dave gave and seem to remember that unsubscribe may not be a required token. As long as we have the opt-out, is that okay?

unsubscribe link is optional from v2.1 onward. up to v2.0 it is required token.
We made unsubscribe link optional in v2.1, corresponding issue is here CRM-3063

It would be great if you look for upgrade CiviCRM to latest stable release ( v2.1.4 )   :) 
If upgrade is not short term goal. I think this patch should work.

We have the same issue.  The unsubscribe is not relevant to our situation and confuses our contacts, so we appear to only use Opt Out.  Since both are required in 1.9, we hide the unsubscribe by making the link be a one space character wide and tack it onto the end of the Opt Out link.  A little tacky, but works for us.
