Check Scanning for contributors

Hope someone can help.  My church is looking closely at changing it's software that tracks our contributors.  Right now the software we use has one great feature but lacks pretty much everywhere else.  That feature allows our administration staff to scan the checks using a check scanner to record all of the contribution checks and auto searches the database so that all they have to do is to key in the dollar amount.  I assume the unique account number is how it does a look up in the database.  Seems like it'd be pretty simple for the right developer.

Does anyone know if this has been done in CiviCRM?

Thanks in advance.

Scott

This has not been done in CiviCRM (or at least no one has mentioned it in the forums)

Would be a good feature to add :)
