Newbie question rgarding emailing
February 18, 2009, 11:36:16 am
All,

We are considering the use of CiviCRM for a small, all-volunteer organization as it appears to support much of the functionality we need. However, I do have a question about its email capabilities.

We have the need to send emails to groups of our members (and others) on a regular basis. In addition, we regularly form (and disband) ad hoc teams which could also benefit from receiving emails. The problem is that there are quite a few originators of the emails. As such, providing each with access, and training, to use CiviCRM would be onerous.

What we would prefer is the ability to define a group of members (currently supported by CiviCRM) and to treat this group as an email 'recipient' which them forwards the message to all members of the group. In case this is not clear, consider the following example:
myTeam is comprised of Jane (j@c1.com), Bob (b@c2.com), and Sam (s@c3.com). An email sent to myTeam@myCviCRMserver.com gets forwarded to j@c1.com, b@c2.com, and s@c3.com

Is this functionality available 'out of the box'? If not, has anyone previously developed this functionality and made it publicly available?

Thank you.

Hi,

We did integrate with sympa (we do the groups in civicrm, and tell sympa to fetch with a custom sql)

Heavily hardcoded and too dirty to be sharable, but definitely doable.
