Step 2 Forward Replies
February 19, 2009, 11:46:39 am
Just want to get clear on this function (and then add this to the Documentation area)

I noticed some inconsistent results and not sure if this is another issue or something I am not understanding.
For example we sent an email with this option checked and 2 of the 10 or so Auto Replies went to the From address and the other 8 just stayed in the civicrm email box?

This is what I assume clicking this From box does.
Any email replied to via
1. auto replies go to the From address
2. manual replies go to the From address
3. token click replies go to the From address
of course all of this goes to the Civicrm email address which deals with this via the soap script?

oops maybe this should be in the soap / community area?

The handling of the replies depends on whether you have enabled reply tracking. If you don’t have reply tracking enabled, the replies should go directly to the sender’s address.

I assume you do have reply tracking enabled, though; if so, all of the replies must go through the CiviCRM’s inbox – and if only two of ten got processed, then either the processor you use (AMaViS? imap2soap? CiviMail Processor? CiviSMTP?) didn’t run again yet or is misbehaving.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

"reply tracking"
I do not see this in Step Two (civicrm 2.1.4)
Is in the the Admin area?
I poked around but did not see it there.

Yeah, sorry, I mixed the stuff up.

The general reply handling is like this:

  • If ‘Forward Replies’ is not checked, then CiviMail sets Reply-To: do-not-reply@… and so trashes the replies.
  • If ‘Forward Replies’ is checked, CiviMail sets Reply-To: to a VERP address, and you need a return channel handling to get them…
  • …unless ‘Override VERP address’ is also checked in step 3, in which case replies go to the From: address set there.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
