You can create a menu with links to event info pages and position the menu in any module position.

Thank you.

How do you position the menu in a module position?

Thank you. That can work, but I really just wanted to display information page and the online registration without going through a menu. I want the information page to be visible on the frontpage as the user visit the site.

Can that be done?

I suspect it can be done. this is more a joomla question than a civicrm question. You might want to ask this on the joomla forums or hire someone from http://civicrm.org/professional/

civiCRM can output code (it calls it the stand-alone form option, I think) that you can copy and paste.  So you make the profile as you want and then click that option and it outputs your code.

You'll need to download and install a module from the Joomla Extensions Directory that will allow you to put in code.  I use Sorcerer.   You upload it and paste in the code via the module manager.

This is how I made a module with a newsletter sign-up and a link to donate.

You can use the "standalone" copied HTML code for Profiles as Chris notes. However, you can't do this for online event registration. You need to invoke the correct CiviCRM URL to render that screen (since it's a multi-page process).

I would start by getting your event info and event registration page working as a front-end menu item:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Event+Info+and+Registration+in+Joomla%21+Sites

Then consult Joomla doc and / or support forum to see how you can make a front-end menu item become the default front page for your site.

You could follow Dave's suggestion of making the event sign-up the front page (and remember you can still have all your normal collection of modules around it).

Or you could make a link ("Click here to sign-up for x event!") right on the front page that takes you to the event sign-up page.  Once you know the url for the event sign-up page (follow the link Dave suggested below), making a link to it is easy and can be done in multiple ways (ie, you can make an article about the event which has a link in it to sign-up, you can use the menu idea as nithya1 suggests, or you can make a module with a link.)
