Make a drupal member a civicrm membership type problem

I have drupal 6.9 set up.  I have civicrm 2.2 and I have the modules for sync civimember and civigroup.

I went to the site configuration to add the roles and sync them.  However the suthenticated user doesnt show up in the options ot sunc, as in when the user logs in or out.  Is this something Ill have to do manually, but I dont know how to create a new role (to replace authenticated user as a default) and have it the default.

I already have about 50 drupal users but I cant figure out how to get them to sync.  I t appears that the drupal roles I created are allowed to be synced to civimember but I havent done it.

I am confused and the more I try to figure out it seems the more problems or oversights I have.

Basically how can I made user roles in Drupal that can be automatically synced with civimember and or group?

I have the alpha 3 version of civicrm...

I must be dumber than I thought.  I cant get the roles in drupal to go to members in civicrm.  I just want those that are signed up, or will in the future with drupal to become members of the civicrm.

I know that I can make a link to the contribute page but would rather do it with the drupal sign in.  More people notice that for the forums and what not and look for the log in register block...

Im quite confused now.  I tried to make a group to add but I cant find where that is either.  Im afraid it is more complex than I originally thought.  I can find the groups "Inner City Arts" but I cant find where to edit them or add new groups or organization there.

I have read through the docs but Im missing something somewhere.

Does anyone have a step by step page somewhere on how to do this?  I would think its a common thing so there would be docs on it, but I cant find anything that I can understand...

You may not need to use CiviCRM's "membership" features if you're just looking to link your Drupal users to CiviCRM contact info and allow them to enter and update their info via Drupal's user registration and my account features.

Basically, once the main CiviCRM module is enabled in a Drupal site - any newly registering user will automatically also become a contact record in your CiviCRM database. And you can create contats for your existing Drupal users using Administer CiviCRM >> Synchronize Users to Contacts.

You can create Profiles (mini-forms) and make them part of the Drupal user registration and my account screens:
