CiviCRM Install Hangs
February 24, 2009, 02:09:32 am
Hi all,

I have looked at the forum, but could not find a resolution that I could understand. I'm afraid I am a geneticist, so I have little knowledge of setting up something like this. That said, I have joomla 1.5.9 running as localhost on xampp on my happy windows xp pro computer (if they are ever happy running windows...). I downloaded civcrm 2.1.4, and tried to install either by pointing at the zip, or (after uninstalling and reinstalling Joomla, because it hung on install and I wanted to make sure everything was as clean as possible) by pointing at the unzipped com_civicrm folder. Again, the install reports a browser "done" with a blank screen. My cpu stops crunching away in apache, so I am guessing it just stops. Lots of things got installed in my htdocs:
  • com_civicrm and subdirectories are now in administrator\components\com_civicrm
  • com_civicrm with the .php and .html.php are in components

I then reloaded localhost and looked for the component. It is there, but when I try to access components-> civiCRM-> civCRM Home I get the following:

Warning: include_once(civicrm.settings.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 13

Warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening 'civicrm.settings.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\pear\') in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 13

Warning: require_once(CRM/Core/Config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 17

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'CRM/Core/Config.php' (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\pear\') in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php on line 17

Well, I took a look. There is no such admin.civicrm.php, as expected. Not sure where to go from here. Does anyone know why my install hangs? Do I need something- like a database set up before installing? Is it permissions? I imagine this is a known problem, and I'm sorry my early morning search has not found the right thread to dig me out from this.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Also, thank you to all who have contributed to this project, as I expect it will be a great tool for us.

All the best,

Bruce

An update:

I must be cross-eyed. The file does exist in the following folder:

C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm

admin.civicrm.php

Which seems to match the path in the error message rather well:

C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\admin.civicrm.php

Not sure why it is not recognized.

Is civicrm.settings.php there in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\administrator\components\com_civicrm\ and C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla_1.5.9\components\com_civicrm\ ???

Polestar,
Thank you for your reply. As I am just trying things out, I decided to abandon the joomy install and got things running in "droopy" instead. Sorry to have taken your time like this. CiviCRM is wonderful!
