Data conversion
February 25, 2009, 09:43:54 pm
Hi, we have a feed (CSV) each day from an external system that we load into Civi. The external feed stores 'gender' values as "f" and "m". Is there any way this can be converted to the correct values of "1" and "2" during the import facility?

I couldn't find any details in regards to this so I thought I would post it here.

Sincerely,
Roland.

hi roland

(IMO) You can not import gender data with values 'f', 'm' or 't'. You has to have proper values ( like  female, male, transgender ).
It would be good if you convert these values to proper values before import to CiviCRM.

Thanks Kiran.

I changed the csv to 'female' and 'male'. It wasn't clear that these were the valid values. I had assumed the values were '1', '2' and '3' as they are radio buttons. But all is good now.

It would be good if the import facility could do the conversion of the data (simple stuff like this). I might have a go at mapping this out and putting it through for a future release.

Thanks again.

Sincerely.

It would be good practice, If check the supported data format by exporting some sample data and try to import data in same format.
(IMO) This will work for almost all CiviCRM data fields.

I filed issue CRM-4360 with a patch to 2.2.2 to do what you want.
