successful install - blank page
February 26, 2009, 11:10:55 am
I've trawled through the forum for tips and pointers on this but still no success.  Is there a checklist I can refer to?  How about a list of what should be found in the directory folders?  I'm using the latest version of Joomla 1.5.9 and trying to install latest Civicrm stable version.
Please - any help very much appreciated!!

Sammi2009,

Give us more details? What did you do? Was the installation error free? How did you install? Can you see CiviCRM in components in Joomla?

I'm having the same issue. After reading the documentation and trying to install multiple times, I am still getting the blank page.

When I go back into the administrator, I see that CiviCRM is in the Components list but when I click on any of the items, I get the blank page again.

Installation version details:
Joomla v. 1.5.9
CiviCRM v. 2.1.6
MySQL v. 5.0.51
PHP v. 5.2.8
Server FreeBSD Apache2

I have increased the max time and file size in the php.ini file on the server and tried both of the following:

(1) tried to install with the Upload File Package -- after several minutes I get either bumped out of the administrator or get sent back to the Control Panel without the installation having done anything.

(2) uploaded the zip file to the server and unzipped it in the tmp directory, then used the Install from Directory -- I get sent to the blank page, tables are added to the database, component is added to the Components list but all links go to an empty page.

What else can I try to get this to install? Can I just upload the component files to the server in the /components and /administrator/components directories? I would appreciate any help.

Best wishes,
Rae

Okay, I looked into the error logs and it indicated "PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'SimpleXML not loaded.'" I installed SimpleXML. Ran the installation again . . . Bingo! Files uploaded succesfully!!!

Best wishes,
Rae

I also got the blank page, but nothing in the error log.

I finally succeeded with the following:

Localhost install
Wampserver -
   Apache 2.2.11
   PHP: 5.2.9-1
   MySQL: 5.1.32
Joomla 1.5.9
CiviCRM 2.2.0

I changed the php.ini file (..\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.11\bin\php.ini) as follows:

enabled xml and simple xml extensions:
extension=php_xmlrpc.dll
extension=php_xsl.dll

enabled ignore user abort:
ignore_user_abort = On

changed the resource limits:
max_execution_time = 600
max_input_time = 600

memory_limit was already 128M

Installed per CiviCRM instructions using civicrm-2.2.0-joomla-alt.zip

I have the same issue with the black screen.  I tried the above additions to the ini.php file but get the below error:

[05-Jun-2010 09:17:56] PHP Notice:  Undefined variable: return in /home/mysite/mysubsite/modules/mod_jrpassphrase/mod_jrpassphrase.php on line 5

Thanks, I really want to get civiCRM working...

One problem I've had with Civi on Joomla is that the Resource URL is not set (either not correctly or not at all). This means that none of the graphics or menus work properly - but you don't get a fully blank screen, so it may not be quite what you are describing. If this is your problem, it means that you can't get to the admin page, and therefore you can't get to the screen to (re)set the Resource URL.

Its easy to test whether this is your problem, and if so fix it.

Go to:

http://www.YOURDOMAIN/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/setting/url&reset=1

and (assuming that you see anything at all) in the Resource URL put

http://www.YOURDOMAIN/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm

I get a blank screen when I use the URL you suggested.... :'(

Thanks for the idea.  Any other suggestions?
