Making email addresses not unique
February 27, 2009, 05:14:54 am
We have a database of about 6,000 members.  Almost 20% do not have email addresses.  I can import these into CiviCRM but not into Drupal.  Also about 10% of our members inclde both ehusband/wife, parent/child and many of these have a single email address.  In this day and time I can fathom why they would only have one email address but it seams that a lot of families really only set up one email account!

Our idea is to create a unique email address at our own domain for these users.  It woudl mean that we still need to paper mail them but they could get on line and register for events, make donations, etc.  This will become unmangeable over time.   In any case, we are looking for suggestions on how other users handle ths, edits or other modules, etc. that could be useful.

I once imported a set of users into Drupal, the bulk of which did not have email addresses. I simply created one for each of the form [firstname][lastname]@deleteme.com so that I could import them into Drupal. The site owners could now track them and store other data about them, and if any person did eventually want to update his account data, he could simply ask the owners to update his user with his email and then he could reset the password.
