Import additional data
February 27, 2009, 12:38:40 pm
I have imported a group of contacts. I then deleted a bunch of custom fields. Now, I've added a new one.
I want to import data for the new one.
I've appended the original import file with the data. It looks good.
I'm not sure if I should update or fill in my options.

It shows a successful import message. I've tried update and fill. Not sure how the matching is working.
It reports 400 records updated. I go in, look @ the data and it's not there at all.

When it goes to show me the processing bar, it's almost instantaneous. It shows for a sec, then over to another screen which shows successful import.

Nothing has been affected on the data. I'm importing from the civicrm main screen. Clicking import and going through like that.
If it's a clue, I tried dumping the db and reimporting everything. It did the same things. I even went in to the files/civicrm/upload folder (i'm using drupal) and set it to 777.

Can someone lend a helping hand?

Hello nimzie,
I just tried this using the "Fill" option and it worked fine. I am guessing that there is a "mismatch" between your duplicate matching settings and the data in your second import file and this is why the data is not getting filled in. I suggest looking at the duplicate matching criteria and threshold settings/weights and making sure that they are in sync. I set mine to match on email because all my import test records had the email field. Also, I am running CiviCRM 2.1.2.

Hope this was helpful,
Cynthia

Hi, I just tried it again. Before doing that, I deleted all but the email contact matching rule.
Then, I chose fill.
In my mapping screen, i chose email and the new field to map.
Continue.
All looked good again.
The progress bar went by in a super split second.
It gave a success message.

Nothing was filled in.

I don't know what you mean by the 2 items being in sync.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Cheers,
Adam

Hate to say this again - but maybe worth trying with different browsers - I have consistently had different responses importing on Firefox v Safari (the latter works for me the former often doesn't)

Peterd. Thank you VERY much for the suggestion. Civi didn't open @ all in Opera.
The whole process went ticketty boo with Safari.

Cheers - thank you so much for the suggestion. I typically use FF3 for everything (both on windows/nix machines)...
I'll have to think twice now!
Thank you.
Adam

Glad it helped. It can be so annoying when these issues aren't the obvious. Given that this has hit many several users over time I wonder if this is something that can be drilled in to by the 'team' for a future release?

If someone (Peter, Adam, ??? ) can provide us with a sample import file which consistently fails on Firefox - with screenshot of mapping choices and exact steps to replicate - we would certainly drill in and hopefully figure out what's happening. Most of the team uses FireFox 99% of the time and we haven't experienced this problem so it's hard to work on it.

Understood - of course many of my problems were on earlier versions so I have kind of given up and just avoid the opportunity
