Can CiviCRM be used as a content management system to "push" content to the web?

Can CiviCRM be used as a content management system whereby we would enter content in to some aspect of the database and then “push “ it to our website?  As we have gone thru the demo version, we have not located this feature.  Can this be achieved by adding a Drupal module for content management of events, services, and activities? Or perhaps in another way?

CiviCRM is used in conjunction with a content management system.

You can use the content management system to "pull" information from CiviCRM and display on your web pages.

Relevant features:
(1) Use the CiviCRM API to pull data from CiviCRM and display on a web page with PHP code.
(2) Use the CiviCRM Drupal Views integration to pull limited date from CiviCRM and display on a drupal web page using the Views module. This requires no PHP coding skills, you just need to know CiviCRM, Drupal, Views and configure it correctly in the first place.
(3) CiviCRM generates listings pages based on profiles that are good for directory -type use cases. CiviCRM provides the URL and page at that URL independent of the content management system.

What you choose depends on what data you want to display.

To answer the above most simply - you would use Drupal (or Joomla) for editing and displaying website "content".  Either CMS also makes it easy to include forms for updating contact information, making contributions, etc  AS PART OF your website. These are CiviCRM features that are "presented" by Drupal or Joomla to your constituents.

Marcia also sent in these additional questions:

Quote
* What do you recommend for training our small staff and ourselves on the operation and extensive features of CiviCRM?
* And does it seem reasonable that we could install CiviCRM, train ourselves and staff, and start using it in a few months?

I would start by reviewing the online documentation and tutorials:

Then depending on the complexity of your needs and the level of technical skill on your staff - you may be able to plunge ahead on your own. Or you may decide to contact someone on our Professional Services listing to help get you started.
