User accounts only with e-mail address?
March 05, 2009, 10:30:56 am
Hi all ...
An organization is still using plain html files for they're website, and have a majordomo mailing list with about 4000 mail addresses.
I have been asked to build a new website, and automate some processes.
I'm going to use Drupal and civicrm for all this.

The new website and civicrm implementation wont be finished before quarter 4.
The person responsible for sending the newsletters has asked me if it would be possible to already use civimail for sending the mailings and handle the unsubscribe requests.
I don't see any problems with this, however, i only have about 4000 e-mail addresses, no names associated with them.

Can i import only these e-mail addresses in civimail?
And would it be possible, once the Drupal/Civicrm install is finished, send a mailing requesting that people would register/complete they're profile based on they're e-mail address.
Hope this all makes sence and someone understands this??!! :)

Thanks in advance for any help on this!
Pat.

Yeah, that's no problem for both. You can import just emails from a csv file. and then when you're ready, send everyone a link via CiviMail directly to a profile for them to fill out the rest.  Not only that, you can include a special link that will pre-populate the profile with any data associated with that record.

More info on how to do this can be found here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Linking+Profiles You should especially read the section titled: Allow Anonymous (not-logged-in) Users to Edit Their Profile

Hope this helps

Waauw, thanks Tony!
Each day I'm more and more surprised with the powerful combination Drupal/CiviCRM :)

I'm going to play with this this weekend!
thanks again!
Pat.
