Clean install of CiviCRM 2.1 & DRUPAL 6 - can't trigger install scripts
March 09, 2009, 11:26:13 am
Hi all - I am doing a clean install of CiviCRM 2.1 on my live site.  I mistakenly updated my DRUPAL 5 site to DRUPAL 6 without updating CiviCRM first (another story - already taken care of via the Update forum) so now I am ready to move my upgraded database to the live site.

My intent was to do a clean install of 2.1.6 and import the data into the database but I am encountering a "Page not found" error while trying to trigger the install scripts.  The URL I am using is <drupal site root>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php, which is correct - I believe.  The civiCRM folder exists in the modules folder under the sites/all folder.  I have physically made sure that they exist.

I did a search on the install forum and found one instance of this problem and it was suggest trying variations of the url like <drupal root>/sites , <drupal root>/sites/all and so on and I got a "You have to be logged in to view this page" UNTIL I hit the <drupal root>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install folder then I got the" page not found" error - I don't know what this means but thought I would include it.

I had triggered the install script earlier but had a problem -(accidentally uploaded the 2.0 files and had to go in and delete them and re-trigger the install routines hence the problem)

Can someone tell me what is wrong so I can get rid of this project?

Thanks in advance

I couldn' t wait any longer - no one answered (or even acknowledged my postingl) - only a few people (a dozen or so) EVEN READ the forum posting...........which happens..........my little problem didn't deserve the attention.

So not knowing the cause (I mean, they are only PHP scripts, right?) I decided to strike out in a different direction.

I had a test site where I had been using to converting my database because I inadvertently upgraded my DRUPAL site (which was running version 5) to Version 6 before I had updated the CiviCRM database thru the 2.0.x upgrades.  So my first steps were to get that data upgraded to the latest 2.,0.x version.

When I got to 2.0.6 of CiviCRM, I then converted my test site to DRUPAL 6 and CiviCRM to 2.1.6 together ......2.1.6 doesn't run under anything but DRUPAL 6 just as 2.0.6 runs only under DRUPAL 5.............so I had a valid version of the 2.1.6 CiviCRM database.  When I tried to do a clean install of CiviCRM 2.1.6 on my production site, NONE of the install scripts would run.  I waited a whole day for an answer and got none, so I had to formulat another plan - My production site was technically down since my 450 plus member info was no longer on the site so I decided to MOVE the site and not do a clean install.

The instructions can be found here:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMUPCOMING/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location

and should be followed as closely as possible.  You are basically doing a manual install with some additional steps.  I don't know your version or if this fits your situation.........if it doesn't do the manual install.

I  just successfully got CiviCRM up and running again today....by following these instructions.  My data seems to be all there but I still need to go thru things to verify this.

I will be glad to offer any advice (from what little I learned) if you have further questions.....feel free to send me an email or message direct or post here.

Good Luck

Please note:  I have since discovered that the install script MIGHT BE DESTRUCTIVE and indadvertantly destroy existing data in the database!   See this post: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6996.0.html

the install script is destructive. Maybe we should check the civicrm db and abort the install if we detect existing civicrm tables etc

wanna file an issue and we'll fix this issue

That would help to know if data is being deleted.  I now have to reload the DRUPAL 5.x site again and do EACH upgrade AGAIN because the data is corrupted - this upgrade just won't get finished - ten days now!

Hi

I too had this problem, everytime I navigated to the install.php it would say 'Page not found'

However I did get it working again though. I had set the permissions on the directory to 777, once I knocked it back to 755 the install scripts started working again.

Best wishes

Paul
