2 Phone Numbers at Same Location not permitted in same Profile?
March 09, 2009, 04:49:56 pm
Hello, I have run into what is (IMHO) a rather unnecessary restriction on profiles and same fields.

I am using a profile in a CiviEvent registration page.   I wish to ask the registrant for their phone number.

So I select Contact > Phone > Primary > Phone to add this field to the profile.

I also wish to ask the registrant for their mobile number and their fax number like so:
Contact > Phone > Primary > Mobile
Contact > Phone > Primary > Fax

Note that all three phone numbers are at the same location.  This is logical as offices often have multiple numbers for faxes and so on.  CiviCRM allows this if I edit a contact as the Admin, to have multiple phone numbers at the same location (see screenshot #1).  But a profile will not allow a user the same ability?  I'm confused.

CiviCRM disallows this because "this field is already in the Profile" is the error I get when trying to add a 2nd phone field to the profile.  I cannot add more fields for phone at this location

Is there some reasoning behind this or is it a bug?

See attached.

there is an issue filed for this: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4219

you might want to watch that issue to see the status. not decided yet if its a bug or feature :)

Thanks!  I"d vote for Bug since we can add 2+ phone numbers in a profile is a common use-case.   For instance, single location with phone number and fax number - very common situation.  Thanks.

Stoob:

This is fixed already fixed in v2.2 and we have also fixed it in v2.1 branch.
