How can I avoid the civimails getting labelled as spam?
March 11, 2009, 12:40:12 am
Hi!

It seems I have run into a problem with the Civimail function of a site I am responsible for. A lot of the mails sent out seem to become labelled by recipients as spam and never read. Sending out 50 mails recently gave me 20 tracked opens, and this far around 10 confirmed trapped in spam filters (thus not opened).

The mails have a header and a footer, with sender adress and opt-out functions. They are rather short (some 10 lines), sometimes with an attachment, sometimes not.

Are there any advice on how to avoid this situation? My CiviCRM is 2.1.2, on a Joomla site.

Best,

Magnus Larsson

Hello Magnus,
We use the CiviSMTP relay service for sending our mail. There are specific guidelines, which I have attached to this post, for using that service. I think you will find them helpful, at least as a starting point. Also, there is a wealth of information on the Internet about how to avoid being labeled as a spammer.

Hi!

OK, CiviSMTP relay service might be a good idea. However, my suspicion this far is that it is the verp-strings that cause the mails to be spam-labeled - does CiviSMTP minimize that too? Or is my suspicion simply in the wrong direction? (we have had no previous spam problems by sending from our current server).

Is there anyone else having similar experiences?

Magnus
