I was wondering if you could give me some direction on this. I have a client that has a very custom donation page. I know that I can play round with the .tpl files but I am not sure that will do enough for me. Is there a way to do a direct post the the donation page. Basically, I would like to take my html designed and have it post all the information directly into Civicrm. I would handle doing all the data validation checking and all that. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

a contribution page is actually a collection of 3-4 pages (depending on tell a friend page). So making just the first page standalone is probably not a great experience / design (IMO, but my design sense is quite bad)

I think you can do a fair amount of stuff with the tpl and make the pages look like the way you want (In the context of the CMS) and is your best bet

You can potentially write your own "contribution" layer and reuse most of the code in the CiviContribute forms, but then you'll have the problem of maintaining / fixing it
