Confirmation email shows only 'Array' in profile fields

I set up a very basic profile to use with event registrations.  When the confirmation email is sent, it doesn't send the information I requested from the profile.  The information is stored in CiviCRM so I can log in and get it that way, but I'd prefer just have it arrive in the email. 

This is what I get:

How do I get it to appear in the email??

This has been fixed in recent releases. Your best bet would be to upgrade to 2.2

Upgrading isn't an option at this moment.  Is there something I can do in the meantime to fix the problem?

your two options are debugging the code or hiring someone from http://civicrm.org/professional. Web Access India should be able to help you out. This will definitely be a 10 hour project or so and trying to figure out what/why/where etc

I have the same problem, but on the latest version, any idea what to do?
