Multisite Install on 6.x
March 16, 2009, 11:44:29 am
Hi,
I am attempting a multi-site install on Drupal 6.10.  I have my 2 drupal sites up and running using the same codebase and different MySQL db.  I would like to run CiviCRM for both sites using seperate db for each.

I have successfully done a base install of CiviCRM in my base install of Drupal.  I have copied over civicrm.settings.php and edited the CIVICRM_UF_DSN and CIVICRM_DSN to reflect the individual db both for the subsite Drupal and CiviCRM.  When I try to run the installer for the subsite CiviCRM I get the message that Civi
CRM is already installed.

Am I missing a step?  All help is appreciated.

remove the civirm.settings.php file for the new site. The installer detects that file and hence gives u the error message

I, too, wanted a similar setup: multiple drupal, multiple civicrm sites, each with own database...

Looking at the Multisites doc from the wiki was really not much help, because that setup is for N sites using 1 database...we want N sites using N databases.

Couldn't figure out a way to use the installer, either...in drupal, it's very easy...once you have your base site created and installed, you can simply go to the new (sub) site, and it will prompt you to install; I couldn't figure out how to get a similar result with the CiviCRM installer, so this is what I did...

1) Copied civicrm.settings to my new site's folder and modified it to point to the drupal and civicrm databases. Also modified other relevent paths. I DID NOT change the multisite flag to '1'; it seemed to me that that flag is more for the N sites using 1 database setup, nor did I do anything with the Domain_ID's.

2) Copied the sites/default/files/civicrm folder to my new site's /files folder.

3) Manually created my database by using the civicrm.mysql, civicrm_data.mysql, and civicrm_acl.mysql files.

4) Enabled CiviCRM in drupal modules.

I haven't fully tested all functionality yet, but so far, so good...

Can anyone see any problems with this approach???

UPDATE:

The only problem I have encountered thus far is when I look at permissions...in my base site, there are several permissions pre-selected, but in my second site, there are none...

Also, I seem to remember that on my last single installation of CiviCRM, my available dashlets included more than just 'Activities', but now that's all I'm seeing in both sites...
