What is the URL string so that people can access this product?
March 20, 2009, 12:50:39 pm
Greetings,

Not only am I new to civicrm, but also to joomla.  Hence, how the heck can I actually get to the product once it is installed?  The quick start guide, etc., already seem to assume I know how to get to the home page of civicrm.

I'm running joomla 1.5, installed per the joomla installation guide, and civicrm 2.2 installed per the installation guide.  I can get to the product from the admin page of joomla, but that won't help my user community.

Many thanks.

Sounds like you may need to do some more reading on the Joomla side of things to better understand how it's structured. You can't escape some degree of learning curve. There are some video tutorials on the joomla site that may get you up to speed on core functions and how to access extensions in Joomla.

To answer your question directly, you need to create a menu item to a CiviCRM function. CiviCRM offers several types of pages to the frontend site -- such as a profile form/search, contribution page, event page, etc. You won't be able to create the Joomla menu item to one of those functions until you've first created the resource in Civi.

Thank you.

And where do I find the documentation for this?

Again thank you.

There is so much chaff out there that it is really hard to find the kernel of wheat.  For example, I'm working through the documentation of civicrm, but at 1006 pages it is a bit daunting.  So too with the Joomla documentation, lots of pages without lots of information.

Ah, for a simple, "Look here in this document, here is the location of the stuff you need."

A few years ago, with another program, I asked the provider of the documentation how to add page numbers using DocBook.  The reply, "Buy the O'Reilly guide."  Seven hundred pages so to add a page number.  Not a friendly response.  I'm feeling the same frustration with this product.  It looks like the product will do what we want, but getting an initial site working is absolutely stressful.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Greetings...

I gave up with using Joomla -- there are a number of limitations to that product of which I was unaware.  Rather, I've installed with Drupal and have already had success in getting civicrm working and visible to users.

Thanks again for your help.
