Event registrations show up as contributions
March 21, 2009, 12:46:15 pm
Civicrm 2.2.0

When an event is registered for, it doesnt count towards the event total, and it shows up as paid under "contibutions" instead of under "events".

I do not even know where to begin troubleshooting this issue.
I have two registrations that recently went through from different users that have this problem, for the same event.

I suspect that it may have to do with the way my registrar is inputting the registration into the system, rather than a "bug" in the system.  What is the easiest way to troubleshoot this?

I think we'll need more info to help with this. Is registration happening through an online registration form? Or is someone in your organization registering FOR the participants (using the New Event Registration button from a contact's Events tab)?

Note that when a user registers for a paid event or a staff-person registers for them and checks the "Record Payment" link - then BOTH a contribution record and an event registration record are created.

If you are not seeing the event registrations at all under CiviEvent -> Find Participants, then my best guess is that your "registrar" is simply entering a contribution for the event fee, instead of using the "New Event Registration" button under the Events tab.

Thank you for that clarification, that is exactly what happened.

In the same vein of things, is it currently possible to register multiple registrants through the backend for the same event, akin to the way that an end-user can register multiple participants through the event listing, or what is the current best practice solution for this?

The case in point is where we have a customer call in to register rather than register through the web, and wants to register more than one user for the same event.  The catch is that both people being registered are minors, and it would not make sense to make a seperate account for each minor, as the adult is the contact record and the billing information, but the child is the participant.

Multiple registration thru the front-end does create separate contacts for each participant...

There's no perfect way to model the "parent is registering and paying for several children" flow yet (since we still assume that the paying person is one of the participants). If you want to have only a single contact record for the adult - you could create custom field(s) for the participant name (Used for = Participants) - and then use that to record the "minors" names as you create each event registration under the adult's contact record.

Or, you can:
* Create the adult / parent contact
* Create minor (child?) contact and register them for the event
* Also might want to create relationship to link adult to child
