CiviCRM and Drupal userid/password
March 23, 2009, 10:29:52 pm
I've finished all of my Drupal 6.10 and CiviCRM 2.1 testing on the test server and I am preparing to launch the set-up on the production server.  We are converting from a 2002 legacy website under which our 400 members already have their information in a MySQL database -- including a userID and password to access a member's section.  The member's section has been replicated in Drupal.

So, two questions:

1.  I am going to use the import function in CiviCRM to import all the member data.  Obviously, I would like to import their current userID and password.  What fields do I use in CiviCRM so that it will be properly synch'd with Drupal and the person can log into Drupal?

2.  Following on that question, is there a way where a new member signing up using CiviCRM can choose their Drupal userID and password?

Thanks in advance.

CiviCRM sync with drupal using email address. So make sure Drupal user's email address and civicrm contacts email address is same.

You can include profile in Drupal's User Registration page.

So could you tell me how to include a civicrm profile in drupal's user registration?
I had it the first time I installed it but now I can't seem to find it.

Hello, I have taken this exact step a couple of times with clients.  First of all, you do not need to import their userid and password into CiviCRM unless you just want it for your records, but I would argue against it.

What you would do is import all the other data: Name, email, address etc into CiviCRM.

Then use the Drupal "User Import" module: http://drupal.org/project/user_import

With this module you import users directly into Drupal.  You can import a CSV data file with 3 columns:

userid
password
email

These users will "connect" with their CiviCRM contact profiles via email address.  Also the userid and password can be imported into Drupal.

Furthermore, the User Import module can, if you wish, send emails to all the people letting them know about the new website and reminding them their userid and password.  Run a few test imports before you import all 400 people.
Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.

I had it the first time I installed it but now I can't seem to find it.

Go to Administer CiviCRM >> CiviCRM Profile >> Settings (for a specific profile). Check the Used For = User Registration box.
