Setting up MX Records
March 25, 2009, 02:52:20 pm
Hi there,

I'm trying to configure my CiviSMTP and I believe I'm having problems with the MX Records. My domain is wnainc.org and added the 3 MX records as follows:

mail.wnainc.org IN MX 5 civismtp.uas.coop.
mail.wnainc.org IN MX 10 civismtp2.uas.coop.
mail.wnainc.org IN MX 10 civismtp3.uas.coop.

I didn't think the MX Records were working so I called my domain manager and they told me that I need to set an A Record that forwards mail.wnainc.org to your server so I need the IP address of the server where civismtp.uas.coop is living.

I am very confused and the things the domain manager said don't make that much sense to me. Do I need to enter your IP address in my A Records for the MX Records to work?

Thank you in advance.

you do not need to set an A record.

The mx records that you have entered are sufficient but they have not necessarily propagated yet. It may take up to 3-5 days for the mx records to fully propagate through all dns servers.

keep trying to test your civismtp account settings until you see all tests pass and then try sending a test email.

thank you,

Leyla

Thanks for the quick response. I figured that was the case.

I actually just found out that the problem wasn't the MX records. I'm hosting on Bluehost and they block the 20095 port. So I had to get a dedicated IP and I'm able to send emails now. The only problem I have is the scheduling of emails; I'm not sure what is going on but the emails don't get sent out. Its like the system doesn't notice the email at the scheduled time. So, I'm now looking in the posts to see if I can find a solution to that.

Thank you, Leyla.
