Access denied for role with Civi permissions
March 27, 2009, 12:29:24 pm
I'm running into a strange problem - I've created a site for a client that uses Civi, and setup a role with all Civi permissions.  When I login as that user, I have the access I expect - I can edit stuff in Drupal or Civi.  But when the user logs in themselves (and they are in a different location), they get an Access Denied error when trying to do anything in Civi.  Two other people in their office have tried, plus they tried at 2 other computers outside of the office as well and they can't access Civi.

I thought maybe it was a cache problem (slim chance - why would a Drupal permission be cached in a browser), but beyond that I'm lost.  We are definitely logging into the same site as it was moved & the dns changed about 2 months ago.  And they can't be logging into a dev site as the username only exists on the production site.

I've searched the forums and have found other Access Denied problems that don't seem to be the same as this.  It's the same site, same username, same role/permissions and 2 people are having 2 different experiences (or rather, me and everyone else).  Any troubleshooting suggestions?

thanks,
Arp

if i had to guess its an issue with hostnames.

ensure that the hostnames are consistent. i.e. use www.example.com in all places (settings, resource urls etc) OR example.com. i.e. dont have a combination of www or not

also ensure that u login within drupal at the right site (i.e. based on the hostname u choose above)

Hot diggity - you're right!  That is definitely it!  I guess I need to go through both Drupal & Civi to fix the hostnames?

Regardless, thank you :-)

Hmm, that was a solution for me as well. My Drupal setttings.php had base URL as www.mysite.com and CiviCRM has www.mysite.com/groups. At the beginning everything was working fine but after about 1h from the installation I started getting access denied on different pages, although I was logged in as admin (user 1). Thanks for the tip, that solved my problem.
