CiviCRM and Paypal
March 28, 2009, 12:39:09 am
Hello,

We have just installed CiviCRM and we are trying to setup Paypal.  We would like it setup such that someone does not have to login to register for a paid event.

We see the Paypal Express, Paypal Web Standard and PaypalPro.  It seems like only this feature is only available through CiviCrm using PayPalPro, however, Paypal Pro has a monthly fee with Paypal.

Our organization has Paypal Web Standard and we have "Buy Now" and "Donate Now" buttons on our regular web page that does not require the user to login.

Is this a issue with the way civiCRM is setup or is it a user issue?  How can we setup paypal such that a user does not have to login without paying for PaypalPro?

Thanks.

in the past year or so, paypal has allowed folks to pay via paypal standard with a credit card and without creating an account. if this does not work for you, please check the paypal forums

I have the same issue: We do not want to:
   Accept credit cards or paypal
Not require a password if user prefers credit cards
   Not pay the $30 fee.

Has anyone been successful at doing this with Paypal standard or express?

PayPal has this funky UI thing where, if it recognises that your browser has logged into PayPal before, it makes it extremely hard to use their site without logging in first. The buttons to pay via CC without login are small and hard to notice.

Likewise, if you have associated a CC with a PayPal a/c, it will refuse to accept that CC "plain", and instead require you to log in.

This behaviour is really annoying when you're testing :)

@suseth, I suspect you might be running into a confusing UI at PayPal. It's not impossible to pay via CC without login; it's just that their website design makes it really hard to see how to do so.

@sonicthoughts, you can do that, but if Paypal recognises the CC, they won't allow the user to pay without logging in.

As lobo says, both of these are issues with PayPal & not CiviCRM, so you should probably ask in their forums as you'll get better support on the topic there.

Hope that helps!
