Custom Data Group allowing multiple records - does this have to apply to group
March 30, 2009, 03:51:38 pm
Hi - I can see this 'multiple record' option being really useful.

For clients with large CustomData sets, they are likely to have several Tabs, and several fields, inc multichoice, within those Tabs.

I could see it being really useful if the 'Does this Custom Data Group allow multiple records?" could be applied to one Custom Field within a Group, rather than to all Custom Fields within a Group.

I.E. you enable the 'multiple records' for the Group (if this is a necessary step) but then have option of removing that characteristic from particular Fields.

Thoughts?

this complicates the data model signficantly. For gory details read all about CCK's implementation in D6 and the Fields in Core stuff in D7. so its highly unlikely we'll be doing this in the short/medium term

in the long term, i suspect we might attempt it based on experiences from drupal's implementation and/or as a consulting project (if someone really needs it and is willing to sponsor the development NOW)

Thks - the step around will be to shift from using Tabs, to moving data Groups in line, so there are more, but each can  be configured to be multiple or not - you know I wouldn't want to make life any more complicated.

NO doubt you are about to point out that  'multiple records' is not available 'inline'  :P

 ???

Any way of removing this once it has been turned on? (no records have had a multiple data record created)
