Synch'ing Organic Groups in both directions

Hi - we are going to have to do some work getting a lot of contacts in to a heap of Organic Groups - and we already have these people in civicrm groups - several routes we could go on this. One would be to look at working on the CiviCRM_OG_sync module - or a new one that works in the other direction since I note at least one request here (joemaine) that two-way synching is not forced on users (keen to hear why not joe).

Other routes would be to sidestep the issue and build the groups on the Drupal side - but seems a shame since we already have the group structure in civicrm.

Any advice? Any suggestions about how long this might take if we go down that route? Who are the wise heads to talk about this with?

We've got a reverse OG sync module we built for one project. Probably would only take an hour or two to generalize for release, but I'm swamped this week... in fact, I should be getting back to work right now...

Hi Matt - gentle prod on this - not in need directly (well, you know, not immediately) but right now am just trying to get an section in to booksprint re civicrm and OG - keen to know what is reasonable to say about status of this

Here's something to try, with no warranty of any kind. It's the custom module, with functions renamed, and functions specific to the site stripped out. It's completely untested.
