Making progress with civiCase

I am now trying to make changes to the built in examples so I can do a simple "Information and Advice desk". I am wondering how any changes I make will integrate with future releases especially when civiCase gets controls so that backend xml and database work is unnecessary (I'm assuming at the moment I have to do all this myself as per tutorial -"http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviCase+Configuration"?). Will anything I setup now have to be redone later?

You Database changes will be upgraded without any data loss. Only thing is you should take backup of your XML files under configuration directory. If in future there will be any major changes in case type xmls , needed required changes in existing xmls will be provided in later on documentation.
