Is this a feature in Civi or is it under a different name?
For example Staff Member X is responsible for Individuals in Group X
Then you can do reports.
Show me all people X is responsible for Soliciting?

I could use custom fields just wondering if this is a more common feature but not called Solicitor?

No, not there in CiviCRM under any name. But would be good to add some documentation on how to go about doing this using groups and custom fields

The term means nothing in this hemisphere though I can grope towards a meaning. I know 'soliciting' is used commonly in US - here is means what prostitutes do, while a Solicitor is a person in the legal establishment. I am assuming 'salesperson' - or 'canvasser'.

I set up a custom field that I called "known by" (a name that is too clunky to recommend, but "solicitor" didn't occur to me) that I thought to use for certain donors who are known by a board member of myself.  My first approach was to make it a contact field with a drop down box, but then I decided it really should be a relationship, so I scrapped that field and just edited the relationship types option list to include "known by", then I set up relationships between constituents and board members.  I made it a two way relationship.  There can be more than one relationship, which is good and relationship links can be found via advanced search.
