Why is Mailing Subject not the Name of Mailing by default?

Had a look and couldn't find a discussion that may have lead to this (and hope it wasn't me who suggested it) but used to be (2.0) that Mailing Name defaulted to be the Mailing Subject - handy since most people 'name' their mailing with the 'subject' in our experience.

Actually there were explicit requests to remove this "feature" a while back. Evidently users where naming the mailing in a way that was appropriate to cataloging it - but not appropriate for communicating with their constituents. And THEN, they didn't "notice" that the subject was pre-filled and just sent it out with an un-friendly subject.

Our experience is opposite of Peter's, actually, and we were happy when mailing name and subject were separated out. As Dave touches on, a mailing name is for internal use and tracking while a subject is the first thing your constituents see and needs to be very appealing and engaging.  So entirely different pieces in our opinion and we like how it is handled now in 2.2

thanks

Fine - i feel suitably silenced, especially as I have this odd feeling I argued for it the other way round

but I wonder if the best of both worlds would be to at least have the Mailing Name displayed somewhere above so it can easily be copied if that is the necessary outcome.

Issue is that at this Step the Mailing Name isn't visible anywhere (is it?)

The best of both worlds would be to have an option controlling this behaviour in CiviMail settings. Patches welcome. :)
