Restrict/Hide Memberships
April 06, 2009, 04:00:01 pm
Hi,

Is it possible to restrict a user to only be able to see the Membership type that he is currently assigned to?

Ex. 3 member types: Student, Associate, Professional.
How do I get a Student to only be able to register as a Student? (Maybe not even see the other membership options?)

Thanks.

How do you know they are a Student before they have registered?

Site does not accept front-end registrants. New members are added by the admin staff, who will then apply a "Membership" status to the member.

Can you clarify you're first statement. If you're not offering front-end (self service) membership registration - where are membership types being displayed to the users that you want to hide (what specific pages / urls).

It's a new site for an established membership group. So users already have accounts & are assigned to a membership type. It's the group policy not to allow public registration; you can sign in from the front end, but not register from the front end. Registration will take place in the backend by the admins when new members get found. So, the members of the site are already part of some membership group  (students, associate, professional) when they sign in. Memberships are public so they can be renew from the front-end.

How can I adjust the settings so that when a user goes to renew their membership they only see the membership type they are already associated with?

This will require some code modification OR you might be able to do it with the buildForm hook. If you're interested in going down this road, try and catch us on IRC.
