adding patches

I am nearly done adding code to expose the membership table(s) to Views2 and was wondering what the procedure is for proposing the patch via JIRA.  I'm assuming via SVN what I'm most interested in is should the patch be against trunk or the latest release version (2.2.2), or are those two the same thing?

Okay so I think I messed up the patch, I noticed the handlers ended up in the wrong directory, /drupal/modules/views as opposed to /drupal/modules/views/civicrm.  ala http://svn.civicrm.org/civicrm/branches/v2.2/drupal/modules/views/

did I create the patch form the wrong dir?
