[FAQ] How to install CiviCRM under Drupal on Go Daddy virtual host

Setting up CiviCRM under Drupal on a Go Daddy (I'm going to misspell it as Godaddy one time so that searchers find this) virtual host isn't too complex -- but it's not trivial, either.  Here's what I did, hope it saves you some trouble:

--I recommend setting up ssh for your host -- if for no other reason than you can then use wget to download CiviCRM directly to the host instead of messing w/ ftp.  Note: if you're already using mysql databases, Go Daddy requires that they be deleted and recreated on the new server.  The Go Daddy migration process will take a while to complete -- don't believe it's done until the hosting control panel lists the new IP address that you will receive via e-mail.  I gave it 12 hours -- not sure how long it took.

--I like WinSCP and PuTTY for sftp and ssh -- both free.  WinSCP can be set to open up SSH in PuTTY -- that's how I do it.

--From the GD hosting control panel, go to the applications panel (I forget the exact name).  Install Drupal.

--When that's done, follow the CiviCRM installation instructions for CiviCRM/Drupal:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Drupal+Installation+Guide

--ftp or wget the CiviCRM files where they need to go.

--Using the GD hosting control panel, create a new mysql 5.0 db for CiviCRM (you could call it civicrm -- the Drupal db will be named something horrible by the GD automated setup script).

--Running the installer: straightforward.  You'll need to supply the database info for Drupal and CiviCRM.  I also had to change the permissions of one of the CiviCRM directories to allow write access (the installation program told me which one, so I did it w/ WinSCP).

--Note: I had to put Internet Explorer 8 into compatibility mode to get the database stuff to work while running the install program.  Odd.

And that does it!
